I was flattered the first time I was asked to serve on the Board of Directors for Seeds of Hope. I asked what would be expected of me, and was handed a copy of Seeds of Hope’s Bylaws. I never would have dreamed my “yes” would lead me on an adventure that rivals Bilbo Baggins’ tale.

Since that time, I’ve learned that Board members have lots of responsibility and even some liability. We start out wanting to do something — anything — to make a difference, to have an impact on the cause we care so much about. Then, when the time comes to step up and put our money, names and integrity on the line, we shrink back, terrified of all the things that could go wrong.

Still, God has a way of sending just the right people with just the right interests, talents and skills at just the right time to keep things rolling along. We even pick up steam as we go. I’m convinced that Seeds of Hope is part of God’s grand plan. He “knit us together” the way he did those 12 fishermen so long ago. I look forward to finding out what he has in store for us in 2013.

Please feel free to join us in the library at First Christian Church, 306 N 7th St., Garden City, KS at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 14, to welcome our new Board members and those returning to the Board from years past. We hope to see you there!
